About me

Behind the lens.
Beyond the frame.

I’m Dave, a UK-based photographer creating editorial, fashion and character-led portraits. For more than 14 years, I’ve worked with models, creatives and private clients to make images that feel purposeful, polished and individual.

Images with atmosphere,
character and story.

My work combines strong lighting, confident direction and careful attention to detail.

I’m interested in photographs that feel deliberate—images with atmosphere, character and a sense of story, rather than something that simply records how a person looked on the day.

Influences

Informed by the best.
Made for the individual.

My strongest influences are Peter Coulson’s expressive monochrome portraiture, Rankin’s graphic and experimental approach, Ellen von Unwerth’s energy and Helmut Newton’s confident location work.

I draw on their use of light, direction and character rather than imitate a particular look. Every shoot begins with the person and the story in front of my camera.

Purpose & professionalism

More than a pose.
Never exposure for its own sake.

Some collaborative projects include glamour or more revealing styling, but that is never the subject or the reason for making the photograph. I’m not interested in formulaic images built simply around how little someone is wearing.

The focus is always character, light, styling and story. Whatever the brief, the set remains professional, collaborative and comfortable, with clear boundaries and no pressure to work beyond them.

Technique in service
of the photograph.

I enjoy the technical side of photography—shaping light, controlling colour and giving every selected frame a careful finish—but technique should never become the subject.

Its purpose is to create atmosphere, reveal character and support the idea behind the image.
